What I Want in an EDC Blade

There’s pretty much three things I need in an EDC blade: 1. The ability to do light everyday tasks. 2. It has to be a plausible (though maybe not perfect) self-defense option. 3. It should be compact enough to not bother me.

This is a great Swiss army knife. It also has a tool set that fits my personal EDC needs and that is one of the main reasons that it is my current pick for an EDC multi-tool.

I am an 18 year old female and often have to take the bus or train home late after work. I carry a small can of pepper spray and a miniature Swiss Army knife in my purse or pocket for easy access (or use the hand strap on the pepper spray to keep it in sight), as I have been harassed several times late at night. So far I have never had to use either, but a friend of mine told me recently that carrying this little knife in my purse is illegal in the state of Oregon. I’ve done some research and all I have found is that I cannot conceal a knife that swings into position by force of a spring or by centrifugal force, but does this include my little Swiss Army knife? There is no spring, and I don’t know and don’t think that it counts as centrifugal force if I have to use the little notch to pull the blade into place.
Any information on the subject would be appreciated. If I have to leave the knife at home I will try and find something else more appropriate or just stick with the spray.

I’m a female and without a car, I’m usually stuck walking everywhere. I’ve been followed more time than I can count, once by a registered sex offender. I’ve had a lot of close calls, so I just want to carry something to keep myself safe and give me at least a little peace of mind.

The only knife I own is a tiny little pocket knife — it’s like a generic version of a Swiss army knife, so it doesn’t open automatically. The blade is probably not even 3 inches. I know knives seem to be a gray area, but I’m wondering if anyone knows for certain.

I don’t want an answer like "swiss army knife" how bout more detail than that, and I’m also curious to know what other "pocket tools" are out there. Also I’m thinking about if it is good with self defense, small projects, big projects, basically everyday everywhere use. Thank you
