Swiss army knife is a multi functional tool that can be used for a wide range of purposes. It was originally invented in Ibach Schwyz, Switzerland. Wenger S. A. and Victorinoz A.G. use Swiss army knife as the trademark of the multi functional knives they produced. Both manufacturers are responsible for supplying Swiss army knives to the soldiers in the Swiss armed forces. The Swiss army knife consists of a screwdriver that can be used to drive screws. The can opener device in the Swiss army knife is used to open metal cans. Besides, it also has other tools such as reamer, wire stripper, magnifying glass, cutter and etc. Swiss army knife is made from stainless steel metal so that it is resistant against rust.

So, I want to get my boyfriend a swiss army pocket knife for christmas (way to wait till the last minute, huh?)
I’m looking on their website…
http://www.swissarmy.com/multitools/Pages/default.aspx?category=multitools&
….and I am SOOO OVERWHELMED!!!! Holy S*** I had NO IDEA there were so many effin choices!!! good god…
So, any guys (or girls!) who know about this kind of stuff, please help…
About my boyfriend: 22 yr old grad student, studying physical chemistry, real science nerd. That being said, he’s not the puny kid in glasses you might think he is, but is instead an ex-wrestler who enjoys doing things outside, and doing things with this hands. He doesn’t get to go outside much, b/c he is in his lab all the time. They’ve pretty much recruited him as the "mechanic" of the lab, b/c he is so good at doing things with his hands, fixing things, tinkering around with machinery, etc. He is also a computer nerd haha.
….but it’s not like he’s going outside and setting up camp everynight, and he doesn’t go hunting or anything like that…
does enjoy fishing every now and then…
picking locks…
So, WHICH KNIFE!?!? thanks
what do you think of this one???

Can anyone who is familiar with this brand tell me what is the difference between "Do-it-Yourself" and "Outdoors" printed on the packaging of these knives? I bought a Super Tinker and it said "do it yourself" on top of it and 14 functions under it.
Ex. http://cgi.ebay.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Army-Tinker-with-LED-flashlight-NEW_W0QQitemZ300286387661QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item300286387661&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A15|39%3A1|240%3A1318
I was surfing the net and I saw some knives from the brand that says "Outdoors" instead of the other.
Ex. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=220345599029
So tell me what is the difference? I don’t get it cause they would advertise the knife as for camping, hunting, fishing, etc. so why would they separate these knives into 2 categories?
Thank you!
i.e. The Super Tinker I bought has 14 functions AND it came w/ Simmons binocular… so what I was confused was mine say "Outdoors" due to the binoculars?

i want to buy one, and i’ve narrowed it down to wengers evogrip s54 and victorinox’s swisschamp. which one would be better ?
also anyone know the dimension (specifically the width ?) i don’t want one that’s fat. i’m also considering the wenger s52 and victorinox handyman.
basically i like wenger’s contoured knives, but victorinox seems to offer 1 or 2 extra blades or stuff for the same price . the width would really tilt the scale. none of the sites mention it

Currently, while it comes to swiss army knives, there’s certainly a lot of alternative out there — I mean, you can them in practically any tool, gift or accessory shop — and try looking online… More than sufficient choices for anyone.
But do a slight research, and you’ll actually discover that when it comes to the legitimate article, there is really just one company that makes the cut.
What do I mean? Well it seems that other copycat pocketknife makers have cheekily used the expression “Swiss Army knife” for any kind of multipurpose pocketknife that comes colored red and bears the picture of the Swiss icon. However how many of these do you suppose are actually used by the Swiss army? you got it, just one.
Yep there’s just one true knife out there, and the corporation that makes it is called Victorinox. And it’s not entirely about Switzerland. For instance, the the Victorinox knife is the only one suggested for the official US Department of Homeland Security.
The knife is also warranted to be free for several kind of defects from workmanship for his entire life. That’s nearly like having alife span guarantee on having a functioning pocket knife!
Tools built-in with this outstanding piece of workmanship include a can opener, a small screwdriver,a bottle opener, a wire stripper, a reamer, a large screwdriver and clearly an ultra-sharp blade to name a few accessories.
If you are looking to buy one of these as a gift for someone, then the best promising one you can buy would be a Victorinox.
